Black Libertarian Leader Challenges All Americans in Nassau Speech

Westbury, NY 9/29/03: John Clifton will challenge all Americans, but especially his fellow minority group members (he is black), to consider and embrace libertarianism. The Queens social worker and Navy veteran chairs the Libertarian Party of New York and served as the party's standard-bearer in the US Senate race in 2000. Clifton will speak on "Black and Libertarian: Why All Americans, But Especially Minorities, Should Support Libertarians" at the Libertarian Party of Nassau County meeting on October 21st, Tuesday, from 8:00 to 9:15pm in the lower level conference room at 230 Hilton Avenue, Hempstead. Free. For information: call 516-767-4688 or email nylibertarian@hotmail.com.

He declares "I am a libertarian because I believe in the maximum liberty of the individual under God. We were created with rights and responsibilities subject to limitations set by the Creator; to curtail choices individuals make in the exercise of those rights is to interfere with His purposes and the nature of the Creation. The only exception to this would be a choice to commit acts of force or fraud against individuals. To fully realize their freedoms and restore the economic prosperity comparable to the rest of America, we must reclaim responsibility for our lives, and cast off the neo-slavery we have embraced during the last two generations. In a word, we must be Black Libertarians."

John Clifton is a social worker who opposes the welfare state, a former drug abuse counselor who opposes the drug war, and a former Ballistic Fire Control Technician on nuclear submarines who opposes the Clinton-Bush policy of military adventurism. John Clifton has fought for Nassau residents by speaking at rallies on behalf of St. Luke's Pentecostal Church, dispossessed by May Newburger's urban renewal schemes, according to Nassau County Chair Richard Cooper of Westbury.
