Libertarians Run "B&B" Campaigns

Some New York voters will get the chance to vote for free markets, individual liberty and personal responsibility and against Big Government--but only if they live in two places beginning with the letter "B".

In the upstate City of Binghamton's 6th Councilmanic District, railroad foreman Scott T. Hurst is taking on an incumbent Republican without a Democrat opponent and who tried to knock Hurst off the ballot, stopping the Freedom Train. Hurst calls for ending corporate welfare and getting Binghamton's government out of the hotel, banking and real estate business. "No tax incentives for politically favored beneficiaries but a tax break for all. I will hold public officials accountable for the failed policies that have ruined this once great city."

Educator Audrey Pappaeliou of Bellport is running for Supervisor of the scandal-ridden Town of Brookhaven. (The former Town and County GOP leader is under Federal indictment on racketeering charges). She would allow the voters to decide on whether to replace the at-large system with councilmanic districts. "I would table forever the grandiose schemes of building a wildlife park and observatory, squash plans for a $10,000,000 bond act and other plans to citify Brookhaven." Big government and corruption go hand-in-hand in her view. Recently, she learned from foreign libertarian activists of the the successes of privatization at the World Libertarian Conference in Costa Rica. Educated in government, private and parochial schools she has taught in all three systems. Currently, she teaches at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue.

Joining Audrey Pappaeliou on her campaign team are: Bruce Martin for 3rd District Suffolk County Legislator; Gary Heine for Brookhaven Town Superintendent of Highways; Philip Clark for Brookhaven Town Receiver of Taxes; and for Brookhaven Town Council Thomas Fordham, Amy Fuller, and Michael Walter.

Computer scientist Bruce Martin is running for County Legislator on a platform opposing pork-barrel projects like the baseball stadium which is being funded by taxpayers statewide. He denounces as vote-buying the member-item handouts of "charitable donations." The same practice is part of our State Budget.

The Libertarian Party stands for individual liberty, free markets, and personal responsibility in order to promote a society that enjoys more justice, abundance and security. Next spring, the Libertarians will nominate a Senate candidate to counter Rudy and Hillary. The Libertarians regard them as Big Brother=Big Sister.
