ANTIWAR CANDIDATES VIE TO OPPOSE HILLARY
Albany, NY 4/25/06: Two antiwar candidates will come into conflict at the Libertarian Party’s NY convention on April 29th, when Jeffrey Russell and Steve Greenfield seek the nomination to oppose Mrs. Clinton. Jeffrey Russell is a retired computer programmer from Clifton Park near Albany who is a veteran Libertarian activist while Steve Greenfield is a lifelong activist and volunteer firefighter from New Paltz in the Hudson Valley. Greenfield changed his registration to Democratic from Green and will be seeking the Democrat, Green and Libertarian lines. The Libertarian gubernatorial race will feature a contest between former Governor William Weld and SUNY-New Paltz math professor Donald Silberger. Russell and Greenfield will both speak at an eminent domain abuse rally to be held at the State Capitol steps on Friday, April 28th from 12-3pm. The convention will be held at the Best Western Albany Airport Inn, 200 Wolf Road, Albany from 9am-11pm
Greenfield declares that “I have chosen Peace and Freedom as the main themes of this campaign. Opposition to the war in Iraq and the USA PATRIOT Act are resonating with the public and media at higher levels than all other issues combined. Favoring continued war and loss of civil liberties are also Hillary Clinton’s Achilles’ Heels-what surveys show as her only weaknesses.”
Russell proclaims that “Senator Clinton supported the war in Iraq, the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. She is using the war on terror as an excuse to expand US militarism around the world and crush civil liberties at home. She is needlessly endangering our troops in a war that is based on a lie, and she is willingly helping to enslave American citizens. She criticizes the Bush administration and Republicans, yet she supports them every step of the way as we head down the road toward tyranny. If she is re-elected we can expect another 6 years of the same.”
