LIBERTARIANS CHALLENGE--RAISE CAIN IN COMPTROLLER DEBATE
Albany, NY 8/23/06 Libertarian Party State Chair Richard Cooper and State Comptroller candidate John J. Cain applauded GOP Comptroller candidate Christopher Callaghan’s call for debates with incumbent Alan Hevesi. The Libertarians urge that other party candidates be included in any debate. Cooper says “Let’s raise Cain in the Comptroller’s race. John Cain’s perspective is both missing and needed from our state political scene.” John Cain, who was offered a bribe when on the Clarkstown Planning Board, wore a wire for investigators and exposed political corruption in Rockland County. Cain says “As the Libertarian Party candidate for NY State Comptroller, I heartily support Christopher Callaghan’s challenge for debates with the incumbent Alan Hevesi. I challenge both Mr. Hevesi and Mr. Callaghan to include in these debates all other candidates as well as myself. If Mr. Hevesi is reluctant to participate, we should proceed without him.”
What would Cain do if elected? "I would question not just the numbers but the ideas behind the state and local government taxes, spending and borrowing. In particular, I would question the slippery numbers and assumptions put forth for eminent domain abuse schemes. If elected, my primary goal would be to work with an elected Libertarian governor to prevent the state from expending any funds to use the power of eminent domain to take the property of its citizens and turn it over to private enterprise groups. Never underestimate the web of intrigue that a bloated government has created.”
Besides Cain, the statewide Libertarian candidates are Jeffrey Russell for US Senate, John Clifton for Governor, Donald Silberger for Lt. Governor, and Christopher Garvey for Attorney-General.
