LIBERTARIANS WILL REPLACE WELD & KEEP RUNNING
The Libertarian Party lost its standard-bearer, William Weld, in the race for Governor today but will not abandon its efforts. State Chair Richard Cooper regrets the departure of Weld but vows to carry on making the Libertarians a viable alternative in New York. Cooper declared "Our message of individual liberty, free markets and personal responsibiity in order to promote a society that enjoys more justice, abundance and peace is desperately needed in the world today. The Libertarian Party will earn a place at the table of public policy debate. From there we intend to win that debate."
The Libertarian leadership will select new candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor to join candidates John Cain for Comptroller and Christopher Garvey for Attorney-General.
This year, Cooper expects that Libertarian candidates will emphasize issues such as curbing eminent domain, legalizing marijuana, gun rights and the reduction of state spending, taxation and debt. The Libertarians are running candidates for US Senate, US House, State Senate and Assembly this year.
