LIBERTARIANS FIELD FOUR CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES
Westbury, NY 7/12/06 -- The Libertarian Party will field four NY congressional candidates this year, two of whom will also run as Republican candidates, according to State Chair Richard Cooper of Westbury, Long Island. Cooper believes this might be a congressional candidate record for the Libertarian Party of New York. Libertarians will fan out to gather petition signatures to qualify their candidates for the ballot. Cooper explains “The Democrat-Republican cartel makes the rules. We have to gather 3500 signatures to put our congressional candidates on the ballot. They need 1250 or 5% of the registered Demopublicans in the district whichever is less. We call them Demopublicans because we see the two old parties as interchangeable. Signing petitions does not commit signers to vote for Libertarian candidates. It just gives us the chance to be in the fight.”
Physician Steve Finger will run in Brooklyn’s Eleventh District on the Libertarian and Republican lines. Computer consultant Eric Sundwall of Niverville in Columbia County challenges a GOP incumbent in the Twentieth District near Albany. Albany attorney Warren Redlich, the 2004 GOP candidate for the 21st district, is running again in 2006 on both the GOP and Libertarian lines. Redlich emphasizes “Stop Wasting Money” in his campaign. Fedex courier Michael Sylvia takes on the open seat in the Twenty Fourth District that includes Utica and Tompkins County outside Ithaca.
Running statewide are veteran activists Jeffrey Russell for US Senate, John Clifton for Governor, Donald Silberger for Lt. Governor, John Cain for Comptroller, and Christopher Garvey for Attorney-General. –30-
