LIBERTARIAN LEADER CALLS FASO OR SPITZER VOTES WASTED
Albany, NY 11/3/06 Libertarian Party of New York State Chair Richard Cooper says that a vote for either Faso or Spitzer is a waste as Democratic victory is virtually certain. Cooper derides Spitzer’s claim to be a reformer as he is an ally of the Democratic establishment. Moreover, Spitzer advocates eminent domain abuse and corporate sports welfare projects like the Brooklyn Nets Arena. “The Independence Party has betrayed the Golisano voter by endorsing Spitzer.” In an open letter addressed to libertarian-oriented Republican voters, he contends that “John Faso stands virtually no chance of being elected. You are wasting your vote for John Faso. Your vote has no bearing on the outcome of the Faso-Spitzer race. However, with your vote for John Clifton for Governor, we have the chance to make the Libertarian Party a force for less government in New York.”
“If enough Republicans who truly believe in individual liberty across the board would select John Clifton as their candidate for Governor on the Libertarian line, it would send a message that you do not want social intolerance with your free markets. It would send a message that property rights are good and eminent domain abuse is bad. Your gubernatorial vote for Libertarian Party ballot status could reshape the political battlefield making it easier for our candidates and libertarian-oriented Republicans enjoying our cross-endorsements to contest elections and influence the system. The Liberal, Conservative and Working Families Parties have shown that this is an attainable goal. “
“Both nationally and in New York, the Republican Party pays lip service to the idea of smaller, limited government as it has transformed itself into a narrow, crabby party that is socially intolerant and uneven at best in its commitment to economic freedom. Instead, it embraces corporate welfare. I urge all Republicans and all New Yorkers for that matter, to vote for John Clifton for Governor and Donald Silberger for Lt. Governor. Please consider our other fine candidates for statewide office: Jeffrey Russell for US Senate, John Cain for Comptroller and Christopher Garvey for Attorney-General.”
