SPEAKER SILVER GETS ACID TEST

New York, NY 8/1/06 Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will get an acid test of competition from former Manhattan Libertarian Party Chair Jim Leszcynski (pronounced Le-ZIN-ski), a marketing manager with a financial firm. The veteran activist is known for his headline-making promotions of Libertarian views through events such as the “Toy Guns for Tots” protest of bans on toy guns, the City Hall cigarette giveaway protesting cigarette taxes, and the Westside Stadium witch casting a spell against sports welfare. But Lesczynski’s campaign is not a publicity stunt. “Silver wields disproportionate power in our state government. And what do we have to show for such a powerful representative? The highest tax burden of any state in the nation. The highest government debt per capita of any state in the nation. Failing schools. Citizens who are defenseless against bad guys, in and out of uniform.”

State Libertarian Party Chair Richard Cooper welcomes his colleague’s campaign. “Jim Lesczynski will show the voters of the Lower East Side that there is a Libertarian alternative for a better New York and America. I regret that we do not have a candidate running against GOP State Senate leader Joseph Bruno. Bruno, Pataki, Silver, and Spitzer represent the worst in parasitic politics in New York. Lesczynski and gubernatorial candidate John Clifton represent the best—the principle of freedom.” Besides Lesczynski, the Libertarians are fielding other Assembly candidates in Manhattan and the statewide ticket of Jeffrey Russell for US Senate, John Clifton for Governor, Donald Silberger for Lt. Governor, John Cain for State Comptroller and Christopher Garvey for Attorney-General.

Lesczynski speaks out on issues. “Don't just cut taxes -- kill them, and bury them where no one will find the bodies. Turn public housing into private homesteading. Gun control is OSHA for criminals. Repeal the Rockefeller Drug Laws (for real this time). End the insane War on Drugs.” He is married with two children.
