Area Libertarians announce new local Chapter of the New York Libertarian Party
Ithaca, NY - February 16, 2005 - The founding convention of the new Ithaca Libertarians will be held Friday, February 18th at 209 N. Aurora St., Ithaca at 5:30pm. The newest chapter of the New York Libertarian Party will offer Ithaca area residents a new voice in local, state and national politics.
Local libertarians and supporters of freedom and liberty in the area are excited about the renewed prospects for reducing local taxes, seeking business, cooperative and charitable solutions to community needs and by being ever-vigilant in supporting and restoring individual liberty.
The Ithaca Libertarians plan to promote a freedom and liberty agenda through initiating legislation, running and supporting candidates, and community outreach and dialog.
The proposed slate of officers for the new organization is Christa Siering of Trumansburg as Chair, Brian Sullivan of Ithaca as Vice-Chair, Carl Ricketson of Trumansburg as Treasurer, and Ellen Ricketson of Ithaca as Secretary. Members will vote for officers at the convention.
Upcoming events include a Fourth of July regional celebration for Libertarians and Free State Project members, operating Operation Politically Homeless booths, and bringing Michael Badnarik, the Libertarian Party candidate for President in 2004 back to Ithaca in mid-April. He will be our guest in Ithaca to teach his Introduction to the U.S. Constitution class, for tax day events and to participate in the Cornell Political Coalition's Sixth Semester Debate Series.
