| Libertarian Party of NY -- Press Release -- Senate Candidate Dares To Raise Unasked Questions |
Silberger, a Harvard graduate and SUNY-New Paltz math professor, asks "Why does the Land of the Free incarcerate a larger number and a larger percentage of its citizens than does any other country on Earth?" His main issue is "Restoring the Rule of Law in the United States, by restoring the Bill of Rights of the US Constitution. The Bill of Rights was written to protect the citizens of the new United States from what was considered the constant threat of tyranny imposed by an eventually burgeoning, unbridled, increasingly powerful government. Its purpose was to specify that the (few) powers granted by the Constitution to the federal government were therein specified and limited." In order to preserve our constitutional and individual rights, Silberger questions and opposes the war in Iraq, the war on drugs, the war on gun rights and the war on civil liberties exemplified by the self-styled PATRIOT Act.
Nassau Libertarian Chair and State Libertarian Vice-Chair Richard Cooper salutes the 74-year old Silberger as a champion of liberty. "Don Silberger, like Barry Goldwater and Eugene McCarthy, may show that a gray haired gentleman can inspire both young and old to get involved in the political life of their country. You can count on a Libertarian mathematics professor like Don Silberger to add to our freedom and multiply our happiness."
