NY Libertarians will Shake the Big Apple at State Convention

BELLPORT, NY -- (04/19/2004; 1000)(EIS) -- The Libertarian Party of New York will present presidential candidates Gary Nolan and Aaron Russo to New Yorkers and nominate a Senate candidate to challenge Schumer this fall when the group holds its annual statewide convention on Saturday, April 24th, at the Holiday Inn-Martinique, at Broadway and W. 32nd Street from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. They will offer speakers on a variety of controversial topics, honor public officials and select new officers. Squaring off for support in the presidential race will be movie producer Aaron Russo versus former national talk show host Gary Nolan. SUNY-New Paltz math professor Donald Silberger will seek the US Senate nomination.

Three public officials, nominated by State Chair John Clifton, will be honored as Champions of Liberty for pro-freedom actions they have taken (NYC Councilman Bill Perkins and State Assemblymen Jeffrion Aubry and Adam Clayton Powell IV). Delegates to the national convention and new officers will be elected. A non-binding straw poll will express the views of New York Libertarians on the presidential race.

Speakers will include: Justin Raimondo of the website antiwar.com on Iraq, National Taxpayers Union president John Berthoud, Gwen Patton of the gay pro-gun group Pink Pistols and NRA Director John Cushman on gun rights, former State Chair Richard Cooper on eminent domain and Brooklynite Gary Popkin on the Brooklyn Nets Arena controversy.
