Libertarians Announce Gail Bova Memorial Essay Contest

Libertarian Party of New York Chair Richard Cooper announced the Gail Bova Memorial Essay Contest. It honors the late Gail Pennebacker-Bova of Selden, a former Chair. The question is "How do libertarian principles promote justice and well-being for women, girls and humanity?" The contest is open to high school and college students from or attending school in New York. The high school and college first prize winners will each get $60. The second prize winners will each get $30 and the third prize $15. First prize winners will also get educator John Taylor Gatto's new book, The Underground History of American Education.

Contestants will submit a 750-1000 words double-spaced essay in two copies. On the first page, please put your name, school's name, year, phone number, email and address. If away at school give both your addresses. Submissions by March 31st to Libertarian Party of New York, PO Box 728, Bellport, NY 11713 Attn: Bova Essay Contest.

Judges include: educator Audrey Capozzi, Suffolk; computer professional Bonnie Scott and teacher Norma Segal, Westchester; systems analyst Bridget Rutty, Onondaga; travel agent Jodi Romanello and investor Melinda Pillsbury-Foster, Manhattan. Suggested readings include: David Boaz's Libertarianism: A Primer; Joan Kennedy Taylor's Reclaiming The Mainstream: Individualist Feminism Rediscovered; and Wendy McElroy's The Reasonable Woman: A Guide To Intellectual Survival. Libertarians stand for individual liberty, free markets and personal responsibility in order to promote a society that enjoys more justice, abundance and peace according to Cooper.
