| Libertarian Party of NY -- Press Release -- Libertarians Mark Memorial Day Condemning Military Adventurism |
Cooper points out that the Libertarian Party of New York's candidate for US Senate, John Clifton, a Navy veteran is the only Senate candidate who both served in the military and rejects the Clinton/Bush/Gore unconstitutional foreign and military policies. John Clifton, 41, is a social work administrator and drug counselor living in Queens and working in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn on the front lines of the social problems Hillary Clinton and Rick Lazio make speeches about. "Just as John Clifton served on the front lines of drug problems and rejects the drug war, he served on the front lines of our national defense and rejects military adventurism."
John Clifton's campaign centers on five freedoms: personal freedom, tax freedom, drug freedom, gun freedom, and peace and freedom. Clifton says no to our unconstitutional bi-partisan foreign policy. "I pledged to defend my country's interests in war, not NATO's, not the UN's, not the EU's, not any international bureaucry or internationalist interest. We must end the urge to play 'superpower' (read policeman) through periodic incursions into Kosovo afeter Kosovo, followed by endless military occupations of such countries. The job of the military is to defend our borders, not to initiate force abroad; fifty years after WWII and ten years after the Cold war, it is time to bring home our troops and shrink our forces to a level to protect our country alone. The will to intervene in foreign or regional wars that are not (or no longer) our concern has shredded the Constitution (these wars have not been formally declared), and thereby weakened both our sovereign law, and the sovereignty of the nations we have engaged. Let the corpor-atists and globalists send their own sons and money to fight "humanitarian" wars. Americans should fight no one else's war, no more."
Harry Browne, a financial advisor who was the 1996 Libertarian Presidential candidate and is seeking the nomination at the National Convention Independence Day weekend declares "I am running for President because no Republican or Democratic politician will end the dangerous foreign policy that makes America the world's policeman, the arbiter of everyone's dispute, the bully inciting terrorism, and the enemy of half the world. I want you to be able to sleep securely -- knowing your children will never fight and die in a foreign war and terrorists will never attack your city>"
Don Gorman, New Hampshire's candidate for the Libertarian Presidential nomination, today slammed the Clinton administration's proposal to send military aid to Colombia. "The drug warriors are out of control. Financing Colombia's war against leftist guerillas is where it begins. Next we know, American politicians will send military advisors. And finally, after putting America's credibility at stake, the drug warriors will insist on committing U.S. troops. Let's stop this now before their war on drugs turns into another Vietnam in the mountains and jungles of Colombia."
Barry Hess, another candidate for the Libertarian presidential nomination reminds us "Of course any Libertarian will tell you that the primary premise of our philosophy is: non-initiation of the use of force. Do not be misled. Swift, immediate and overwhelming response to any overt act of force against us is the correct response."
The NY Libertarian Chair Richard Cooper, a Westbury businessman, explains that the Libertarian Party stands for individual liberty, free markets and personal responsibility in order to promote a society that enjoys more justice, abundance, and peace. For information: http://ny.lp.org/
