| Libertarian Party of NY -- Press Release -- Libertarian Senate Candidate Challenges Central NY |
The Libertarian Party of New York is challenging the political establishment with a slate of candidates that State Chair Richard Cooper of Westbury calls "everyday heroes." New Yorkers will have the chance to vote for Harry Browne and Art Olivier for President and Vice-President and John Clifton for US Senate. Cooper reports that the Libertarians stand for individual liberty, free markets and personal responsibility in order to promote a society that enjoys more justice, abundance and peace
Queens resident John Clifton is a Navy veteran from the front-lines of our national defense as a submarine ballistic missile technician who opposes the global military adventurism supported by his opponents. John Clifton is a social work administrator and drug counselor on the front-lines of our social problems in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn who rejects the welfare state and the war on drugs. His theme is "Just Say Yes To Liberty" which means five freedoms: tax freedom, drug freedom, gun freedom, personal freedom, and peace and freedom. An African-American, Clifton lays the principal blame for racial profiling and gun violence on the War on Drugs. In contrast to his "gun control freak" opponents, Clifton champions the "right to self-defense through gun ownership." He hopes to get at least the margin between Hillary and "Hillary Lite."
Harry Browne is a best-selling author and investment advisor. He was the Libertarian Party candidate for President in 1996. Browne makes what he calls the Great Libertarian Offer. "I am running for President because it's obvious that no Democrat or Republican is going to stop the relentless growth of the federal government. No one but a Libertarian will reduce the federal government to its Constitutional limits, reduce your taxes dramatically, and allow you to live your life as a free American."
The Central NY Libertarian Party is led by William Meyer (Chair)of North Syracuse and Bridget Rutty (State Committee Representative) of Tully. Other Central NY Libertarians include the world-famous psychiatrist Thomas Szasz of Syracuse University and retired teacher Robert Schaffer of Clinton. Both Szasz and Schaffer are Libertarian presidential electors.
