Letter to the Ogdensburg Journal: Drug Money

11/14/04

To The Editor:
Ms. Monnet ask why can't the 'Border Patrol give drug bust money to the Ogdensburg Neighborhood Center, Catholic Charities, Habitat for Humanity, or after school programs in our area' ( Drug Bust Money Ogdensburg Advance News Nov. 7 ).

While the above programs struggle to help the needy, the border patrol has handed local law enforcement agencies over quarter of a million dollars so far this year

Maybe its time communities get a full audit of their law enforcement's share of seized money and ask for a decrease in taxes. The article Ms. Monnet refers to states the Potsdam police department got $10,998.48. The article did not mention the $40,952.92 Potsdam police received July 21. July 29 local state police received $68, 663. All the recipients of the seizure money are on tax supported budgets!

The " due process' the Constitution guarantees St. Lawrence County residents is now determined guilty by the bark of a dog.
