To The Editor:
The media wants to sell news. The politicians want attention. One sure bet for both is the 'drug war'. But is the public getting the truth ( Canada's Pot, Ogdensburg Advance News March 6 )?
Canada's Deputy Prime Minister Anne McLellan, speaking a day after four Mounties were killed during a raid on a marijuana grow op in Alberta said, "Marijuana production is a violent, organized scourge which are often backed by organized crime."
The death of the RCMP officers was a tragedy. The worst part of the tragedy is the twist for personal political gain.
The officers were to repossess a 2005 white Ford F350 pickup on behalf of an Edmonton dealership, not to investigate a grow op. After the tragedy a search reviled 20 marijuana plants in a back shed, hardly enough for personal use let alone big time organized crime.
What is the message we are sending our kids with these lies?
