As the April 15 income tax filing deadline draws near, Americans are once
again scrambling to comply with the requirements of our antiquated, overly
complicated and oxy moronic tax code.
Perhaps true impetus for meaningful
change
might be found if every elected and appointed government official, at the
federal, state and local levels, were required by law to complete and file his
or her own tax returns using only resources available to the general public
free of charge. No computers, tax software, tax advisors, accountants,
lawyers, or paid professionals of any kind - just the forms, instructions and
publications available from the IRS or other taxing authority. Each return
would
then be scrutinized in detail and the results be made a matter of public
record. After all, what's good for the goose is supposed to be good for the
gander.
