Inhibiting Enterprise

most taxes and regulation just drive out small family businesses in favor of large companies who can afford to buy legislators and expensive prerequisites for business that they set into law.

AO0497 & SO0427 A bill that "Requires dealers of second hand articles to maintain records of second hand articles bought and sold in the course of business; regulates the business of the sale and purchase of second hand articles; imposes fines and/or imprisonment for violations."

BAD

Al - This bill is pathetic attempt to find criminals and stolen goods by requiring second hand dealers, including antique dealers, to get identification and the name and address of anyone who sells an item to them. It treats everyone who sells to a second hand dealer as a potential criminal, and makes second hand dealers servants of the police. Please oppose this bill by writing to the Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Robin Schimminger, members of the committee, and your Assemblymember. THIS BILL HAS ALREADY PASSED THE SENATE !

AO7330 & SO4611 "Reduces rates of taxes on utilities, importation of gas, sales and compensating use taxes on certain utility services, commercial heating, and residual petroleum product with regard to the petroleum business tax to zero percent by the year 2002"
GOOD

Al - This bill would reduce energy taxes by $450 million. High energy costs are a great burden to the residents of NYS and one of the reasons businesses do not want to locate in NYS. Write to your Assemblyman and Senator.

AO5322 exempts clean energy technologies from the state sales and use tax.
GOOD

Al - This bill not only exempts products from the sales tax, but also would encourage independence and decentralization in New York State's energy industry, and thus is a step toward destroying the government monopolies on energy. Declare your energy independence!

AO7479 : This bill would remove the state sales and compensating use tax on all motor fuels and diesel fuels and allow localities to do the same. A companion bill has already passed the State Senate.
GOOD

Al - Write to your Assemblymember and urge them to vote for this bill. New York State has some of the highest taxes on gasoline in the country.
