Eminent Domain Abuse
February, 2005 The Supreme Court is hearing the Kelo case. A Fort Trumbell (CT) neighborhood is threatened with eminent domain. The Institute for Justice is once again taking up the fight on behalf of people threatened with eviction. There was a rally for Susette Kelo February 20, at the monument in the downtown area of New London, not far from the Union Train Station. About fifty people showed up, according to a Suffolk County (NY) Libertarian who attended. She observes, "The same evening on News12, a segment ran on how the Mayor of Patchogue Village plans to use eminent domain for the purpose of building 'workforce housing' (the new term, I guess, for 'affordable housing'). Once again, the potential victims will be homeowners, some retired, some still working. "

Libertarians believe that you have the right to do what you want as long as you don't interfere with the rights of others. We believe that New York State government is too big, too expensive, and tries to do too much.
