The U.S. Eastern District ruling by Judge Gleeson in Green Party of NYS vs. NYS Board of Elections allows voters in NY to indicate that the Libertarian Party is their preferred party, even though it doesn't have "Party" status under the state's Election Law. UPDATE/November 17, 2004: The Second Circuit has affirmed Judge Gleeson's decision. The opinion can be found online in PDF at uscourts.gov. The appellate court found that the district court did not abuse its discretion in holding that the law indeed violated the First Amendment, which includes the right to join with like-minded individuals to accomplish a shared political objective.
Download a form and start enrolling voters as Libertarians today! What we need to do: get the word out, actually organize and conduct registration drives, advertise, promote a high-profile convention (in NYC), contact independents and hit the campuses (to persuade not-yet aligned voters). We need your help! Start here. Print out a voter registration form from the State Board of Elections (right-click on Windows to download it), fill it out, and return it to your county's Board of Elections. If the link to download the form doesn't work, please try our locally-cached copy, current as of October 15, 2003. (right-click to download it, and then open it from your desktop)
