Audrey Silk, community activist and founder of NYC Citizens Lobbying Against Smoker Harassment (NYC C.L.A.S.H.), was nominated as the Libertarian Party candidate for Mayor of New York City on Saturday, April 9, at a convention at the Bohemian Hall in Astoria, Queens. The convention also nominated businessman Ron Moore, president of Marketing Technologies Group, for New York City Comptroller, and Jim Lesczynski, Manhattan Libertarian Party chair and veteran activist, for Public Advocate.

At the Queens County LP convention, also held on April 9, John Clifton and Thomas Ruks got the LP nod for their runs for Queens Borough President and New York City Council, 22nd District, respectively. In 2003, Mr. Clifton was elected state chair of the LPNY, a position he still holds. John Clifton is a Navy Veteran (six years, on Poseidon and Trident II class submarines), and social worker (in homeless outreach, mental health, drug counseling, and foster care prevention over the past ten years. Thomas Ruks is a former state vice-chair of the LPNY, a former assistant editor of our newsletter, Free NY, and a long-time and energetic activist for the LP.

Jak Karako Photo--click for a larger version Jak Jacob Karako, former Manhattan Libertarian Party Chair, is running in the Democratic Primary for the New York City Council, Fourth District, as well as on the Libertarian line. The Manhattan LP has pledged to help his campaign.

In 2005, the LPNY is planning to challenge offices in most counties in the states. The petitioning is tough, but it gets you out on the street to hear the issues important to your constituents. It's worth the effort so that libertarians have someone to vote for, and to create new libertarians.

All of NYC's 51 city council districts are up for re-election this year, as well as the mayoral position, like in many cities across the state.

Jim Lesczynski, candidate for NYC Public Advocate John Clifton, candidate for Queens boro president Gary Popkin, candidate from Brooklyn Geoff Snyder, candidate from Niagara County
