To the editor:
Are you sick of the Republicans and the Democrats? Do you feel that they only engage in personal attacks on each other's character, and not on issues that are really important? Do you feel that they only try to scare you into voting for them? Are you ready to consider a real choice, a party that has had its presidential candidate on the ballots in all 50 states since 1992?
The Libertarian Party was founded in 1971 by people who were disgusted with both major parties. Its basic political belief, the one that informs all its positions, is that things work best when people are as free as possible to make their own choices and to engage as much as possible in voluntary interactions with one another. The vision of the Party is identical to that held by the people who wrote the Constitution.
Have you ever wondered why it is that campaign finance reforms never seem to work, or why every few years we have to "save" social security, or why medicare always seems to be in trouble, or why the income tax law is so complicated? If you want a clear-eyed description of how things really work in Washington, DC, I suggest you read the book "The Great Libertarian Offer" by Harry Browne.
We have been indoctrinated into a particular belief in this country, a belief that only government can solve certain social problems. The Libertarian Party challenges this belief and holds that the problems mentioned above are never solved because we are mentally locked into this belief. You may find more information about the Libertarian Party by going to www.lp.org and to www.self-gov.org. Be prepared to find some really interesting ways of looking at things.
Sincerely yours,
Robert Hofer
