LPNY HomeLibertarian Party of NY -- Manhattan LP Call for Writers

Writers needed!

The Manhattan Libertarian Party is producing its own tabloid newspaper, similar to the national LP's _Libertarian Viewpoint_, but focusing exclusively on local political issues from a libertarian perspective. We'll make the articles relatively evergreen, so that the publication can have a long shelf life. The title I've chosen for the tabloid is _Serf City_.

I know we have a lot of very good writers in our midst, and I'm calling on all of you to contribute an article or two. Write about whatever local issues you are most passionate about. Some issues have national and local aspects, such as gun control and the drug war; those would be great topics, but make sure you at least touch on the NYC angle. And remember that this is intended to be a paper with a point of view, so don't be afraid to be hardcore, provocative or politically incorrect. On the other hand, it's also intended to be an outreach tool, so don't be pointlessly offensive.

It would be very helpful if potential contributors would let me know what they plan to write about as early as possible, so I can try to ensure we cover a diversity of issues. We also welcome relevant photographs and cartoons.

Articles can be any length within reason, but I think 500-1,500 words is a good target. Send your articles, photos and cartoons to jim@manhattanlp.org no later than March 1, and put "Serf City" in the subject line. All submissions will be subject to editing. I will have sole editorial control over the content of the paper.

Once I receive all the articles, I will have the tabloid laid out. I also hope to sell advertising to make this project self-funding. With all the articles and ads in place, we'll hit the presses and then hit the streets. I would love to distribute thousands of issues all summer in front of subway stops, at street fairs, and in whatever businesses will let us leave a stack near the door.

Not only will _Serf City_ be a terrific outreach tool for the MLP in general, but our candidates will be able to use it to augment their campaign literature. In fact, I plan to have one page in the middle of the tabloid that will just be information about this year's candidates. When the election is over, we'll be able to yank that page and continue to distribute the rest of the paper.

Any questions, please ask. Now get those word processors running, and we'll see you in the papers.
