Guns for Tots
On January 22, Manhattan LP spokesman Jim Lesczynski publicly announced the "philanthropic" campaign, which will work to give toy guns . including water pistols and cap guns -- to the city's children. The drive is a response to a new bill that would prohibit the sale or possession of any toy gun.

The anti-toy-gun bill (Int. 0298), sponsored by city council members David Weprin (D-Queens) and Albert Vann (D-Brooklyn), would make it illegal to sell or possess any toy gun. Currently, it is legal in New York City to sell toy guns that are brightly colored or otherwise obviously not actual firearms.

Manhattan Convention Held January 11
Nationally-renowned speaker Vin Suprynowicz headlined the convention; local LPNY leaders Gary Greenberg and Don Silberger also addressed the assembled Libertarians and guests at Manhattan's 1050 restaurant.

New officers were elected at the MLP's annual convention:

Manhattan LP Chair
   Gary Snyder
Media Relations
   Jim Lesczynski
Secretary/Treasurer
   James Eisert
Fundraising Director
   Buck Crutchfield
Membership Director
   Joseph Dobrian
In accepting the office of Chair, Gary asked that each member consider what brought the members together. Despite any possible differences, we were gathered together because of our value of Freedom, our value of Liberty. Make an effort to respect each member's interest in freedom.

Gary also spoke concerning the Free State Project. He asked a familiar simple question. What would you do for freedom?

Monroe County Convention February 8
The Rochester-area Libertarian chapter is pleased to present Jim Lark, former LP National Chair (2001-2002), as its keynote speaker. Jim lived in Rochester in years past and has graciously agreed to take a break from his heavy teaching schedule at the University of Virginia in order to reunite with old friends and make new ones. This is a unique opportunity to meet one of the most distinguished Libertarians in the country. They are also happy to welcome back Scott Jeffrey, the LP candidate for Governor of New York in 2002. He will share the experiences acquired in conducting three political campaigns in as many years, including the most successful petition drive in the state in 20 years. They also welcome Dr. John Klofas, Chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice at RIT, as their third speaker. Doors open at 10:30 AM, and a brief business meeting will be held at 3pm. Buffet lunch and other speakers: $35 after 2/4/03, $20 for students. Send a check payable to LPMC to 224 Ellicott St, Rochester, NY, 14619.
